What To Bring

What’s Included? . . .
Each plan at Lake Savant includes: Private accommodations in your own log cabin equipped for light housekeeping; Boat and motor for each two guests; tank of outboard gas per day for each boat; two dozen live bait per person each day; landing nets, minnow buckets, boat cushions, and freezer service.

We also supply blankets, pillows, pillowcases, fitted sheets, dish cloths, dishes, cooking and kitchen utensils.

Guests need to bring:
Food and drink, personal items such as hand soap; hand, face, and bath towel; top sheet (we provide the bottom sheet, pillow w/case, and wool blankets), paper goods, and a few cleaning supplies such as dish soap, scouring pad...

Basic Rules for Flying Gear...one ice chest for each two people, rods in cases (no reels attached), one tackle box per person, duffle or soft bags for clothing (avoid hard suitcases), pack groceries in boxes, not bags. Purchase fishing license before you arrive at camp (float base has them or pick up at tackle stores on way up.)

Basic Gear...good quality rainwear, boots, cap, polarized sunglasses (amber), portable fish locator, fishing pliers, filet knife and sharpener, camera and film, clothing for all seasons, bug repellent with deet, sunscreen, US or Canadian Coast Guard approved life vest, and flashlight.

Walleye Gear...L to ML 5'6" to 6'6" graphite rods with fast action tip, reel to match rod for weight and balance, 6 to 8 lb. test line max. Bait: lots of jigs 1/8 to 1/4 oz. chartreuse, white, black, yellow, and pink. Road runners and fuzz-e grubs, floating jig heads, twister tails 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 in. long, spinner minnow rigs, rapala, shad rap, thunderstick, rat-L-trap and floating mag rapala.

Northern Pike Gear...M to MH 6' to 7' graphite rods (medium heavy when using monofilament lines and medium action when using spectra and kevlar type lines), bait casting reels to match rod weight and balance, 12 to 20 lb. test line. Bait: Johnson silver minnow, red eye, suick, super shad rap, mepps, tandem spinner baits, slug-go, and big rat-L-traps.

Lake Trout Gear...MH to H 6' to 7' rods with roller tip when using wire line, Penn 209 or Daiwa line counter reels or similar type and cap, Spectra and kevlar equipped rod and reels could be used with 280 to 300 yds line cap.

Bait: Sutton spoons #1 choice or try the new Savant Spoon, big rapalas, shad raps, rat-L-traps, red eyes, doctor spoon, and 2 oz. jigs for dead bait rigs.

This list is only a recommendation and is meant to assist our clients in the selection of top quality and productive fishing gear. Remember, most lures catch fisherman...not fish. One's arsenal of high tech equipment is good to a point, where and how you use it is your key to success.

Extra gas and minnows, leeches, suckers, ciscos/herring available at prevailing rates.
