Getting to Wildewood From...

Wildewood is not accessible by car. When we say wilderness resort, we mean it: Wildewood is not accessible by car. But have no fear, -we will be more than happy to assist you in making your travel plans.

Drive-To or Fly-In?

- The best and least expensive way to get to Wildewood is to drive the entire trip. Once you've made arrangements with Wildewood, you drive to our pickup parking lot outside the town of Savant Lake.

- Pick-up times at the parking lot must be pre-arranged prior to your stay.

- We will meet you with our specialized all-terrain vehicle and transport you five miles to the resort.

- If you choose to fly commercially, the closest destinations are International Falls, Minnesota or Thunder Bay, Ontario. From here you have the option of renting a car or arranging a connecting flight with Bearskin Airlines to Sioux Lookout, which is 75 miles from the resort. There are car rental agencies at the Sioux Lookout airport. Go to http://www.siouxlookout.com/busdir_transportation.htm for more information.

Driving Directions

From St. Francis: Take Rt. 502 north to Rt. 17 Dryden. Out of Dryden, take Rt. 72 to Rt. 516 Sioux Lookout. Out of Sioux Lookout, take Rt. 516 to the town of Savant Lake.

From Thunder Bay: Take Rt. 17 to Ignace. Out of Ignace, take Rt. 599 north to the town of Savant Lake.

Arrivals/Departures

- Pre-arranged pick up times from our pick-up parking lot should be established with Wildewood before your arrival. Click here to download and print a map of our pick-up parking lot.

- First night accommodations are on us.

- Fisher's Eve: For those who can't wait to get on the lake and want an extra night of fishing on the first night in camp, see our Rates page (link to Fishing Rates on RATES & RESERVATIONS)

- Departures begin between 6:00 and 7:00 am, depending on time of year and weather.

- Guests are invited to join us in the lodge on their first night in camp for complimentary hot dogs & chips, see old friends, meet new ones, swap a few fishing stories, and enjoy the evening.

- Guests are responsible for flight costs from the local float base if they choose to fly. Different options are available. All flight times are subject to delay due to changing weather conditions.

Local air service and fares

You may choose from three charter floatplane air services in the Savant Lake area. After the first of each year, we obtain all the info/pricing from them and post on this website. Flights will be priced by aircraft and/or per person. If you wish, we will gladly make your reservations for you and may be able to save you money by grouping more than one party on the same plane.

The community of Savant Lake

Savant Lake is a small community in Northwestern Ontario along Secondary Highway 599, roughly halfway between Ignace and Pickle Lake. The community is also connected to Sioux Lookout via Secondary Highway 516. The CN transcontinental rail line passes through the town.

Local Air Service Locations & Fares

The best way to get to Wildewood is to drive. If you fly into International Falls or Thunder Bay you can rent a car and drive into Savant. This is the least expensive. Bearskin Airlines will take you as far as Sioux Lookout and we can make arrangements for you to fly/drive in from there. (Map not to scale.)
