Fishing SeasonsEarly Season (May-June) can literally produce a fish on every single cast. Walleye and Northern Pike will move into staging areas adjacent to spawning beds for several weeks after ice off. They can stack up in huge numbers, an absolute bonanza. Lake Trout are shallow, scattered, and easy to catch. That’s Spring. Mid-Season (July-August) most always reduces the chance for cold fronts. Stable weather produces good quality fishing. Locations, strategies, and presentations will vary from spring patterns. Lake Trout will be found in deeper water (50-100 ft.) but tend to group in higher concentrations on structures with fast breaks holding bait fish (Ciscos). Walleyes and Northern Pike will hold in slightly deeper water and then move into shallow structure/cover areas for feeding. Good numbers all species. Best time for larger Walleyes. That’s Summer. Late Season (September) is the most beautiful time of all and offers outstanding fishing. Water temperatures start to drop and again this triggers a change in patterns. Large Lake Trout move shallow for prespawn and most often require only bait casting strategies. Northern Pike and Walleyes generally move shallow and become aggressive. That’s Fall. Lake Trout Bonanza in late September! 5' to 15' of water... flyfishing or spin casting. |
